The public transport in Brighton & Hove has a history dating back to 1840. Today, it has a major railway station, an extensive bus and coach service, a large number of taxis and in the past it has had trolley buses, ferries, trams, auto rickshaws and hydrofoil services. Getting around the city by car can be difficult and drivers can be forgiven for complaining about the cost of parking. However, Brighton & Hove County Council leads the way with its transport plan which aims to reduce congestion, improve road safety, improve air quality and provide greater accessibility.
