With so many high streets looking the same these days, the city is refreshingly different with its alternative shops and street markets. Where else could you find a tatooist, a 'peace' shop and a vegetarian shoe outlet all on the same street? Of course, it wasn't always like this, but gone are the days when large department stores dominated. Hannington's and Courts closed their doors long ago, but thankfully some independents are holding out.
