Open Market Café I

London Road / Ditchling Road

2012

This is a photograph of people outside the Open Market Café on its last day before it closed for re-generation. Located in Central Brighton between London and Ditchling Roads, the Open Market was first used by barrow traders in 1926, with permanent stalls being built in 1938. Since then it has seen a slow decline in trade from the 1970s to the present day.
